[L-R] Eric Salamat (of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team) and Ashley Gosinegfiao
—-
This pic was taken @ the NU107 booth last November 5, when Ashley’s sister Alodia hosted an anime show along with DJ Angel of the Brewrats.
There were previous rumors that these two were dating. But when Ashley came in with Eric, we were shocked. so the rumors that Ashley and Eric are dating were further solidified.
Are they dating? Or are they just friends?
We do not know. But as long as they are happy together (that sounds quite wrong), we’re happy too. ^__^

Love Blues 1.0

Does love need a reason?

I thought I had it all figured out till last Saturday, when I stumbled upon a quote on my friend’s Facebook wall which goes “If for all things there must be a reason, why should there be no reason behind love?”

She (or whoever came up with the quote) has a point. I always believed that love does not need a reason to back it up; that you may like someone because of his/her physical appearance or desirable qualities but you cannot possibly love someone with the same reasons. That certain quote though, changed the whole landscape. I suddenly found myself asking: does love really need no reason at all?

To further help me with my pursuit of an acceptable answer, I asked some of my friends (via SMS) regarding the matter. Here are their opinions.

“Yes, it does. Hindi mo masasabing mahal mo kung walang rason.” -Gela Francisco

“Yes. Everything has a reason. Kasi yun ang isinsigaw ng puso mo.” -Elmar Casauay

“Ang pag-ibig, parang paghinga. Hindi sinasabi. GINAGAWA.” -Denise Santos

“Technically, scientifically, yes. Emotionally, it’s still a yes. ‘Coz the one you love is the reason why you’re loving.” -Cess Gonzales

“I dunno. But based on experience, if you really love someone, hindi marereason out kung bakit mo siya mahal, basta mahal mo lang siya. Ganun.” -Jasmine Manahan

“Love is unconditional. Therefore, there is no sense of loving someone with a reason. Kasi we don’t know when or how we will fall in love. Sometimes nga we didn’t know na nadedevelop na pala tayo sa isang tao…” -Camille Escauso

All valid opinions, I must say. But the next one explained it most clearly (and ended all argument, in my opinion).

“Kasi, when you love someone for a reason (for whatever reason) once na nawala yung reason, you cease to love that person. Which I think is pretty much not love at all. When you love someone for no reason, love talaga siya. Kasi para sa akin, phenomenon ang love which requires no explanation. Pag na-explain siya, hindi na siya talaga love, kasi mawawala yung wonder, parang ganun.” -Ivan Espineda

Yes, some may require a reason to love someone. And who are we to question the the purity of their love? But I think It’d be nicer to love someone unconditionally, without any reason at all. For me, love needs no reason. Love defies reason. That’s just my opinion though.

My friend Seema may also be right, that LOVE ITSELF is the reason. Well, we can put it that way, if we’re talking in abstract. Truth is, we won’t really figure it out. All we can do is to derive our own meaning of love, and live by it. After all, it’s love we’re talking about here. It’s more complicated than any other human emotion  we can ever conceive.

Quote

It has been said that time heals all wounds. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue, and the pain lessens, but it is never gone.

I don’t get why Facebook and Friendster lets us choose the “It’s Complicated” option when we enlist that we are in a relationship.

For me, every relationship is complicated. Each one has its own complications, whether large-scale or small-time, long-term or short-term.

That’s what makes relationships sweeter. :D

Post with 1 note

Goodbye, NU107.

It’s been a week since NU107 waved goodbye to us all, but I still find it hard to believe.

And i think I have the reason to feel as such. NU has been a part of my life since I became enamored to rock music, which was a good four or five years ago. Since then, I almost never moved the radio dial at home (the only time I change stations is when the BrewRATs was airing on another station). NU became my constant companion whenever I leave the house. When I’m forced to attend family gatherings, I turn my cellphone radio on, put my earphones on, then tune in to NU (so I’d have a valid reason to not mingle with my relatives). It was also the first station to feed my ears with music by The Mars Volta, Rage Against The Machine, Weezer, Collective Soul, The Ting Tins and other groups who would later become my favorite bands. And who else plays Pinoy rock tracks ad often (and as enthusiastically) as NU does?

So it goes without saying that I was extremely shocked when I first heard that NU will permanently sign off come November 7. I refused to believe it at first. But as days went by, the inevitable truth started to sink in.

Because I haven’t been to the station yet (at that time), I had the sudden urge to visit, at least before NU goes off-air. It was then that I heard an ad announcing NU’s final shows, one of which was a quasi-anime night featuring Angel Rivero (formerly of the BrewRATs) and cosplay queen Alodia Gosiengfiao. I happened to be a huge Alodia fan, so I decided to visit the station, along with some of my friends. Yes, it turned out to be a very fun night at the NU studios, but we came as Alodia fanboys and not as NU fans. I wished that I could visit the station one more as an NU loyal.

And then the chance came. I heard that Tita Gang (Badoy of RockEd) will organize a vigil outside the NU studios on NU’s last day, November 6. I tagged along with a friend, who was also an avid NU listener.

It was a sight to behold. A throng of NU listeners were already gathered outside when we arrived, showing their support to NU for a final time. There were so many people out front that some people even resorted to occupying the center island along F. Ortigas road. Inside the NU premises (yes, we were able to squeeze or way in), the lobby was also filled with people. We can see the booth, filled with DJs, through a glass wall. It was very nice to see the former and current DJs, the station heads and even NU owner Atom Henares get together for a last time: embracing, exchanging high-fives, comforting each other. One dark spot, though, was when Tim Yap dropped by. (Tim Yap and rock music just doesn’t add up. Eraserheads reunion concert, anyone?)

The final hour came with each of the current DJs giving their farewell messages. The saddest moments began when former NU jock and station manager Chris Hermosisima delivered the final top-of-the-hour message. Sighs and cries echoed all throughout. And when the last song (The Eraserheads” Ang Huling El Bimbo”) played, the emotions just poured out. We sang along, teary-eyed, thinking of the memories we had with our beloved NU.

This might be a bit late, but what the heck. I just want to thank NU for being a huge part of my teenage life. Thank you for introducing me to the groups/bands who became my all-time faves. Thank you for filling my head with tunes that became a part of my life. My gratitude also goes out to the people behind NU: to all the station heads and to all the fomer and current jocks, for 23 years of rocking my life, and for four years of rocking my life. I will never fail to remember you every time I hear a rock tune, but most especially when I hear “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

NU107 is a light that never goes out. The bulb may have been removed from the socket, but still, the light shines. AND IT WILL NEVER GO OUT. :)
